And the winner is…

Big game tonight vs. Cruz Azul.  word on the street is that the game is going to be sold out!  the crowd was amazing on saturday night when we played dallas, i would love to see a similar atmosphere this evening.  the worst part was def the fact that i was up in the stands, but my quad is feeling much better, and i think there is a good chance it will be ready for this weekend’s game in colorado. thanks to all of you guys for the nice messages and support, i really appreciate it!

So as you guys already know, everyone who bought a banner on saturday night, was entered into a raffle to win a pair of my game worn, autographed cleats.  The winner of the raffle is Tiffany Vandersteen!  Congratulations Tiffany, we will be sending the cleats out to you right away…

Saturday, October 16

Hey guys, so i realize that i havent written in a while, and i was thinking that we need to give some more stuff away, so i came up with a little idea…

This saturday night we have our last regular season home game of the year against FC Dallas-  hopefully all of you will be there!  the galaxy is now four points ahead of us and dallas only two points behind, with two games remaining before the playoffs. our last lost of the season came against dallas, down at their place back in july. they have just broken the mls regular season record for consecutive games unbeaten, and as you know we have the new record for home games unbeaten. one of these all time records is likely coming to an end on saturday!  as you can tell it’s going to be a a huge game, and we need all of you there to support us! we still have a chance at finishing the regular season in first place, and adding another trophy to the case.

My banners will once again be on sale for $17 at Carnival Real (which will take place on the east side of the stadium, prior to the game, from 5-7pm). For everyone that buys a banner, you will be entered into a contest to win a pair of my game worn, autographed cleats (as shown above). After the match i will put all of your names into a hat and pick out a winner. If you buy 2 banners your name will be put in twice, if you buy 3 banners you will be entered three times, etc. I will later announce the winner and send you the cleats asap. good luck, see you on saturday!

 

Tickets for September 15th vs. Toronto FC

In case you guys arent up to speed with our Champions League schedule, our next game is at home on September 15th against Toronto FC.  Everyone in our group has one win and one loss at this point, so next game is going to be crucial for our chances to make it into the quarter-final round.  We had a great crowd against Arabe Unido (Panama) for our first home CCL game a couple weeks ago. Hopefully all of you guys are going to make it to Rio Tinto again next wednesday.

Im assuming that not all of you have already bought tickets for next week’s game, so i figured we would have a little contest and give a couple away.

The first person to comment on this post, and tell me who this picture is of (on the left), will receive two tickets to next week’s game vs TFC.  I’ll give you a hint:  this picture was taken in 1975, just after he finished his playing career.

Finally Back Home

my delta skymiles account is going through the roof!  from salt lake city to mexico city, mexico city to toronto, and toronto back salt lake (with a quick lay over in minneapolis) all in the past 7 days.  this last week was very challenging for us, and although we were disappointed with the final result at cruz azul, we were proud of the way we responded up in canada.  here is a little video of us preparing for the week:

Congratulations to Luke Lichota and Terrell Clements for coming in with the two highest bids!  Luke has won the autographed jersey with a bid of $255. Charity Auction

I think it’s about time for a little charity auction.  I have two items that you guys can bid on- one is a jersey of mine, and the other is a ball. they are both autographed by the team. in order to try and win one (or both) of the items, just respond to this post (either on here, or you can send me a message on my facebook or twitter account) with how much you are bidding and which item(s) you are going for.

For example, you can send me a message that says- Chris, i want to bid $200 for the jersey and $75 for the ball. On thursday, I am going to announce the winners. If you have the highest bid, i will respond to your post and announce your name. The minimum bid for the two items are:  Jersey- $150   Ball-$50

All of the money that is raised will go directly to Goals for Greatness to help them with a project that they are doing with Heart to Home. The project will be announced this wednesday on Good Things Utah, so please tune in if you want to hear more about the great work that they are doing for our community!

New Banners Just Arrived!

Huge game saturday night for us against Chivas USA.  After two straight weeks on the road we are coming back home to Rio Tinto Stadium!  We had a good run, going ten games without a loss, until we dropped all three points last week in Dallas.  Saturday night against Chivas will be a perfect opportunity for us to get back on track and stay right near the top of the standings.

I think the game is almost sold out, but if you don’t have tickets yet you can get them by visiting RioTintoStadium.com, or by calling the RSL front office at 801-727-2700.  We need you guys as the 12th man, so make sure you’re loud!

Also, my new banners just arrived!  the two pictures that you see here are an example of what they look like – the real banners are about 2′ x 4′ and are printed on vinyl with grommets so you can hang them at home or bring them to the game.  They will normally be selling for $25, but this saturday night they will be on sale at Carnival Real (prior to the game on the east side of the stadium) for only $17.  I will also be coming out to watch the fireworks after the game, come find me so i can personalize your banner for you with an autograph.  Hope you guys like them, let me know what you think…

Down Time

Some of you have been asking what i like to do when i have some down time, so i figured i would try to show you guys.  I have a couple videos from the past week (they are just off to the right side of the screen under the adidas sign) of two of my favorite things.  The first one is of us wake surfing on my buddy’s boat down at utah lake, and the second one is a video of of the paul mccartney concert from last tue at rio tinto stadium. hope you enjoy…

It’s Been a While

ok, i know it’s been a while since i have written, so we have a lot to discuss…

first off, a quick note on the world cup-

i am so proud of the US and how our guys performed. i think we had a great showing for the most part and were unlucky not to advance further. in particular, i was really excited for my good friend, and teammate, robbie findley. i thought he represented our country well, and i have a feeling that won’t be his last world cup.

as for the rest of the tournament, i enjoyed every minute of it!  some of the refereeing was terrible, the vuvuzelas got annoying at times, and certain players were ridiculous with their antics. But! i will take all of that, if you can give me the almost impossible combination of heartbreak and triumph, that can unite not only a nation, but the entire globe during one month every four years.  there is absolutely no other competition like the World Cup, and im sad that its over, but thrilled to have been able to witness it (even from thousands of miles away).

RSL-

things are continuing to go well for us, as we have just finished the first half of the season. we have dealt with some of our players being out (due to injury, and national team call ups) quite well.  i think it’s a testament to the depth of the team, and the fact that our “reserves” are more than capable of stepping in and getting the job done.  as our schedule heats up with Champions League games adding to our already busy schedule, we will need all 24 guys if we are going to be successful.

next up, FC Dallas on saturday, down in Texas.  another tough challenge for us on the road.  hopefully we will continue to do what we’ve been doing- focusing on defense, while creating chances and scoring goals on offense- and we’ll have a great chance to get another good result.

MLS All Star Game-

we have just found out the starting XI for the MLS All Stars who will play against Manchester United, down in Houston, at the end of the month.  in case you werent paying attention, here are the eleven (from back to front)- Ricketts (LA), Marshall(CLB) Olave(RSL) Gonzalez(LA), Beckerman(RSL) Pappa(CHI) DeRosario(TFC) Morales(RSL) Schelotto(CLB), Donovan(LA) Buddle (LA).

first off, i think every player in this group is very deserving. for different reasons- Ricketts and Gonzalez, because their team has only allowed a handful of goals in half of a season. Marshall has been the best defender in our league for a few years now.  Olave is a beast and people cant deny his presence. Beckerman and Schelotto, because they are the heart and soul of the last two MLS Cup Champions. DeRo, Morales and Donovan because they have been three of the top five players in our league, and they’re proving why once again this year.  and finally, Pappa and Buddle, because nobody has had a better start to 2010 than these two.

a special congrats to our guys from RSL for making the squad, and thanks to all of our great fans who helped to get them there by voting!  hopefully we will get a couple more on the roster when the rest of the team is announced.  personally, i think rimando and saborio are as deserving as anyone in MLS, and i hope they get the nod!

1 vs. 2

Real Salt Lake vs. LA Galaxy, 7 pm MT on June 9 at Rio Tinto Stadium.  First place vs. Second place.  The best offense vs. The best defense.  The Champ vs. The Runner Up.

What a great matchup! Both teams are missing some players for different reasons- Buddle (LA), Donovan (LA), and Findley (RSL) are all in SA representing our country.  Beckerman (RSL), Gonzalez (RSL), and Kovalenko (LA) are all doubtful due to injury- but none the less, both teams are certainly eyeing this as THE crucial contest before we head into the WC break.

After testing it out during practice today, my hamstring feels great and i am ready to go for tomorrow.  the staff was a little bit hesitant to push it, so i am not gonna start the match but will def be looking to get in at some point in the second half.  thanks to all you guys for the nice messages over the past couple weeks!
